My Body, His Temple

Inspired by Your Body, His Temple by Matt Slick

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God and that you are not your own?19 You were bought at a price.  Therefore honour God with your body.20 (1 Cor. 6:19-20)

I know I’m not the best Christian around, but I still uphold my values vigorously. This passage came to my attention as two friends were discussing issues about the body in today’s society. While these two verses from 1 Corinthians can be interpreted about how we treat our bodies, whether we take care of ourselves or abuse what we’re given by taking drugs, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, the other issue which came to my mind was about sexual promiscuity.

It’s no secret to everyone around me that at 21 years of age, I am in fact, still a virgin. For me, this is nothing to be ashamed of, nor is it something that I go around boasting proudly about. It is a natural state to me, as I uphold my beliefs about sexual relations.

I know that I am far from perfect in every way – none of us are perfect. However, that doesn’t mean that we can’t try to uphold important values. Personally, I cannot see myself having more than one sexual partner in my entire lifetime – that’s just the way I am. I want to try and uphold my beliefs on ‘no sex before marriage’ not because I am a prude of anything of the sort, but for the reason that I do not want to share my body with anyone else other than the man I will call my husband.

As the verse states, the bodies that we are born in are a gift from God, and therefore we should treat it with the utmost respect and honour. We honour God through what we do with our body – it is sacred in every way. This is why I am adamant against smoking, drugs and anything which damages the body.

With this said, I want to pay my respect to the Lord by keeping the act of sex as something sacred between myself and my lifetime partner. Even I cannot guarantee that I will be able to keep being like this until my wedding night, but I will try my best to do so. It is the least that I can do in order to give back to God for everything he has provided me with in this life.

To make love with a partner is something that you do to express the depths of your emotion to each other, and can bring forth the miracle of a new life into the world. I believe with my whole heart that something like that should be kept sacred between two people, and not to be abused as it is in modern society.

This is the promise that I will try to uphold to God – what will you do to show your respect?

Imperfection

Lord, I am not perfect. I am a sinner – not a saint, yet could you love me in all of my imperfections?

My heart is weak, and I have no courage when it comes to Your Name. I am a mere mortal who cowers at your power in the light, but ignores all thoughts in the darkness.

How harshly do you judge me? I wonder as I search my soul for answers. I wonder if I could face the truth and strip myself of all pride, leaving me bare with nothing. Could I truly humble myself and recognize what a selfish, arrogant fool I really am?

I seek your guidance – I wish for answers. Yet, I wonder how long it will be until I fall into the darkness once again.

My Lord, would you place your will on me? Light your fire within my heart and lead the way.

Revelations

Book of Revelation (King James Version)

Revelation 6

1And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see. 2And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.

3And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see. 4And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

5And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand. 6And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.

7And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see. 8And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

9And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held: 10And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?

11And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled. 12And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

14And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

16And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Prayers for the homeland

A little late, but my heart goes out to the victims of the “Ondoy” typhoon.

Dear Lord God, hear my prayer;
Send us your mercy – watch over your people fallen victim to wrath of the typhoon in Manila. I pray you will provide the means of help in order to recover from this tragedy. I pray that you will help comfort the hearts of those who have lost the life of a dearly beloved.

I pray that the world will hear your message. I pray that you forgive our sins. I pray Lord, that you hear our voices, and that you will fill us with the strength we need to pass through this ordeal.

My Lord God, hear my prayer; hear my heart. May you bestow your kindness upon us.

In the name of Jesus,

Amen.

Mabuhay ang Pilipinas. Kahit kung hindi ng ipinanganak ako doon, sa puso ko, Pilipina ako talaga.

Nang yari naman ito, di siyempre mag-alala ako.
